IGNITION INTERLOCK

Beginning January 1, 2011 all persons either convicted in court, or through the Administrative Revocation Office, must install an ignition interlock to drive. This is a device that requires little or no alcohol on the breath for the car to operate. This is a new process in Hawaii, but it is estimated to cost about $1,000.00 a year to install and maintain the device. There are certain exceptions for work vehicles, but it requires a person to go to their boss and get a sworn statement from them stating that they will be fired unless they can drive for work.

More information on these types of devices from the manufacture that is required for Hawaii cars can be found at smartstartinc.com.
